As reported by the New York Times, Amazon has begun capturing its fashion products as 360-degree product images. With this new view, Amazon aims to offer customers significant added value. Unlike the widely common practice today, clothing will be photographed on models, which can then be independently rotated by the customer as a 360-degree image. With these captures, Amazon wants to show customers better than previously possible with typical 2D images how the clothing fits “on a person”. Amazon is taking a path that Scanmotion has been recommending to its customers for several years. Don’t show clothing in one or two images, but preferably on a real model. Better than such a real view with a 360-degree product image, clothing, like many other products, has not been displayable to date. The often cited videos are indeed moving images, but due to the predetermined sequence of a video, they are ultimately just a static view. With a 360-degree product image, the customer alone decides what they want to look at, when, for how long, and in how much detail. Amazon has now recognized this and hopes to gain competitive advantages, cost savings, and access to fashion designers. Not without reason, Amazon has made quite substantial investments for this.

Update 2020: Meanwhile, Amazon has also started showing hardware products in 360 degrees.
We have been producing hardware as 360-degree product images since 2008. We have built unique experience in this area over the last few years. In terms of quantities, this means: experience from several 10,000 pieces.
You can see a small overview of 360-degree product images we’ve created in our gallery.

Update 2023: For about 3 years now, Amazon has been offering 360-degree representation of products. This is visible for more and more products. According to current Amazon guidelines, 24 / 36 images are possible. However, the “premium” 360-degree view on Amazon is with 72 images. Info.
Since 2023, we have been able to capture products with 72 images in very high quantities per day. Therefore, we also welcome inquiries for quantities starting from 1000 pieces.

Update 2024: Starting from the beginning of 2024, Amazon is no longer accepting new 360-degree product images. Amazon has now begun to enable product views in 3D. The introduction of 3D views on Amazon is likely to set a new standard in online shopping.
Creating 3D files for products is significantly more complex than a product photo. However, the success with these views justifies this effort. Scanmotion began creating 3D for products of all kinds more than 10 years ago and is now able to transfer any product into 3D. In addition to individual orders, we also create entire collections of products of any kind in 3D. Many examples and information can be found on our 3D scan page.
