Since spring 2020, Google has also started incorporating AR into Google Search in Germany. For example, in initial search results, dinosaurs can be found, which can then be viewed in AR using a mobile phone.
What does this mean for product presentation?
Unprecedented possibilities! 360-degree product images already allow products to be shown comprehensively and intensively for the user. With 3D and AR, it goes several steps further. Products can now be rotated, zoomed, and viewed freely without axes. It doesn’t matter whether this happens on a PC or a mobile phone, etc. The possibilities go much further. In the 3D view, descriptions of the respective items can now be inserted at freely definable points, or even images for further explanation or even links. Textures of the items can be changed and modified. For example, a chair can be displayed in many colors and materials.
And AR?
AR marks the beginning of a new era, which is now also being gradually supported by Google in search. Unlike Virtual Reality, AR doesn’t completely block out the real environment, but supplements it with virtual products. AR enables products to be visualized in real scale and on-site. For example, you see the real living room furniture on your mobile phone and virtually place the new dream dresser or dream sofa in the corner of the room. This allows you to immediately assess whether the new sofa really fits into the living room. Both visually and in size.
In the B2B sector, the possibilities go even further. For example, virtual 3D views can be created that display an item in a disassembled state, like an exploded view drawing. And this can be used in both 3D and AR technology. To show customers the composition of an item in the best possible way, to better define the necessary spare part, to make training more interesting, or to support the technician on-site. The possibilities, especially in the B2B sector, are extremely versatile.
Marketing
In the marketing field, 3D and AR possibilities allow, for example, banners and advertisements in which the items are no longer shown as images, but in 3D. With AR, the customer can then immediately view the advertised item virtually at home in the right place, and from all sides. Returns due to incorrect orders are noticeably reduced, as initial evaluations have already shown. Companies can successfully assert themselves against competitors with such 3D views.
