Amazon 360-Degree Images
What needs to be considered when using Amazon 360-degree images? As a service provider for 360-degree product photos, Scanmotion has been creating high-volume 360-degree product photos for more than 15 years. Let’s briefly summarize what to pay attention to.
“360-degree product photos are intended to bridge the physical gap between the real world and the digital world. Products should therefore be viewable in the best possible way and from all sides. Rotatable for the customer as if they had the item in hand. This way, things like the back of a device are also easily viewable by the customer. All this not only enhances the digital shopping experience but also reduces the return rate.”
For truly good results, high-quality lighting suitable for the respective product is first necessary. The lighting should support the 360-degree all-around view. Products must be placed absolutely centered for this. The angle of the camera to the product should be about 10 to 30 degrees depending on the product. Reflections should be avoided as much as possible.
To achieve the smoothest possible display of the rotating product, Amazon prefers the Premium Version of a 360-degree product photo. A capture with 72 images. Alternatively, 360-degree captures with 24 or 36 photos are also accepted. To stay ahead of competitors on Amazon, Scanmotion recommends choosing the possible 72 images for 360-degree product images for Amazon.
Like other large platforms, Amazon rejects shots with unclean backgrounds. The reason for this is that any distraction of the customer from the product should be avoided.
Therefore, after capturing the product images, retouching follows. Any support aids for the shots are to be removed and the product is to be placed on a pure white background. The output image size is max 2500 pixels, but at least 1500 pixels. Format png on white.
In the next step, the file names are formatted according to Amazon guidelines.
<ASIN>_360_<SEQUENCE-NUM>
Example:
B01N32NCPM_360_0000_web.png
B01N32NCPM_360_0001_web.png
B01N32NCPM_360_0002_web.png …
–
B01N32NCPM_360_0069_web.png
B01N32NCPM_360_0070_web.png
B01N32NCPM_360_0071_web.png
B01N32NCPM is the Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN) and Sequence-Num is the numbering of the images, starting at 0000.
In the last step, the data is packed into a specific structure.
Example:
└─── B01N32NCPM (folder)
└─── B01N32NCPM_360 (folder)
B01N32NCPM_360_0000_web.png B01N32NCPM_360_0001_web.png B01N32NCPM_360_0002_web.png ... B01N32NCPM_360_0069_web.png B01N32NCPM_360_0070_web.png B01N32NCPM_360_0071_web.png
Pack the files into a ZIP file while maintaining the directory structure.
Name the ZIP file with the ASIN (e.g., B01N32NCPM.zip). Make sure that the _360 folder
(containing the assets) is compressed into a ZIP file and the resulting folder is simply renamed to the ASIN.
The files are now ready for Amazon and only need to be delivered. For this, they must be downloadable from an internet-accessible location. The link to this is sent to your Amazon representative.

Update 2024 Amazon
Since the beginning of 2024, Amazon no longer accepts new 360-degree product photos. Instead, Amazon has now switched to 3D views. The advantage of these 3D views is clearly evident. Products can be shown even better, up to augmented reality, where, for example, the sofa can be seen on the customer’s mobile phone in their living room. It’s best to try it out for yourself.
Update 2025 Amazon
As of January 20, 2025, Amazon has permanently discontinued 360-degree views on product detail pages. Instead, they now refer to the option of uploading 3D models.
Zalando is also preparing for 3D technologies. For instance, Zalando acquired the startup DeepAR. Online shopping is expected to be enhanced in the future through 3D content and interactive experiences such as AR.
